'25 Cats Name Sam and blue Pussy' is a privately printed, limited edition book by Andy Warhol. It was published in 1954 by Seymour Berlin with Charles Lisanby credited as the author, as he suggested the title, but there's no text in this book. In the calligraphy for the book was made by Julia Warhola, Warhol's mother. The lithographs were produced on Arches watermarked paper with a brand of Warhol in the blotted line technique. The original edition was limited to 190 numbered copies (though, perhaps up to 150 were produced). Each original was hand colored, with the help of Dr. Martin ink washes. Most of them were given by Warhol as gifts to clients and friends. Warhol's mother had left the letter "D" off the word "Name" in the title and Warhol kept the error in, as he was fond of random flaws, which have appeared in his work as a result of the methods he used. Both Warhol and his mother had a passion for cats, and they were all named Sam, except for one called Esther. They had so many cats that friends remember them always giving away kittens. 25 Cats Name Sam and blue Pussy actually contains only 16 cats named Sam are one cat in blue named Blue Pussy.
